We are in the season of celebrating Christ’s birth. At this time of year, our sentiments are rich with reflection on how blessed we are by the coming of Christ:
- “There is no possible way I deserved such a sacrifice, such an act of love.”
- “What a tremendous gift the Father has given, and what a love He has for us that He would send His son to take our place.”
- “What can I give back to you, Lord? How can I make my life an offering to You?”
When I think about the community and family and network of people that God has placed me in, I think, “What is my purpose in these roles? How can I respond in gratitude toward Christ for what He has done for me?”
It is a blessing to be able to be a blessing! Here’s what I have committed to do in response to God’s love:
1. Give Radically
When Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart is also” (Matthew 6:21), He was showing an opportunity for us, his sons and daughters, to worship Him.
We are His instruments, and when we give, we are lifting up to Him a sweet sound of adoration. Our response is part of God’s plan for blessing those in need near to us – and to the nations.
By sowing, we are loving God and loving others.
2. Believe Unconditionally
Solomon writes in Proverbs 19:21, “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.”
After we sow into God’s kingdom, we have to trust that He is the orchestrator of the symphony. That He will nurture what we sow to carry out His will.
We sow in wisdom, but God makes our gifts grow.
3. Lead Humbly
Proverbs 15:33 tells us, “The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom.”
Many people today need help and guidance to become financially independent. Sharing our financial tools and insight will grow the number of givers in our circles of influence, and the Lord loves cheerful givers.
We know prosperity is not made just for our enjoyment and pleasure. Wealth is God’s blessing on us, and our responsibility is to be good stewards of it. So for Christians, the Christmas season is the perfect time for responding to God’s generous gift of his son, by living radically generous lives.
Our celebration should reflect our stewardship responsibility and the calling we feel to honor the Lord by giving, believing, and leading.
Let us use this time to celebrate the incredible gift we have in Christ and the joy we find in serving Him!
